It is designed to allow the tail of your strap to fit underneath the buckle side of the strap so that keepers are no longer needed, though it can be used as a long traditional buckle as well (with keepers). If you find that you are often stuck between sizes on your watch straps, or want an easy way to make small adjustments in warmer or cooler
