A Fin de siècle Beauty Neutral Their friend Man Ray tookThis delightful little portrait is a typical work by Thomas, many of his oils were on the smaller scale and the majority depicting beautiful women he encountered in the Caf Society around Brussels. We will never know whether this was a friend, lover or even a complete stranger sat at an adjoining table, but he captures a moment in a life, a girl lost in thought or perhaps regret, unaware of the artists gaze.
