アートとデザインの双方の観点から注目を集め続けるオランダのグラフィックデザイナー、カレル・マルテンス。彼の作品は個人的かつ実験的なものでもあると同時に、それは公共の歴史として積み重ねられています。本書では、ブックデザインやカタログ、郵便切手、ポスター、コイン、建物の看板など、さまざまなデザインコミッションの作品と同時に、彼のアーティストとしての活動を収録。後者は幾何学的構造と動力学的構造から始まり、紙の素材そのものにモノプリントと呼ばれる版画を用いて作られ続けてきました。1996年に初版が刊行され、その継続的な需要に応えて継続的に増刊を重ねる「Re-Printed Matter」。今回の第四版では約60年に渡るその活動の記録と作品が収録されています。
