Antique Japanese Meiji Era c1890 Kasane Clothing Tansu Chest Kiri Wood 38"W Tools late Edo to early MeijiThis is an Antique Japanese Kimono chest or Ishodansu. This chest was made in the mid Meiji era (c. 1880's) of kiri (paulownia) front, case and interiors. Ishodansu were used to store precious kimono, obi and accessories. This chest has can be easily used stacked or separated for side by side use or even as two bedside pieces. Each part is 19 1 2" tall. This tansu chest is made with pegged tenon open mortise corner box joint construction. This chest
