オランダ出身のアーティスト、ルース・ファン・ビーク（Ruth van Beek）の作品集。作者は、主に古い本から引用したイメージを素材として作品制作を行います。彼女は、カトラリーや調理器具、洋服、家具、果物など、生活にありふれた写真を用いて、折ったり、切ったり、ペイントした紙片を重ねたりすることでそれらに物理的に介入し、写真に新たな文脈を繋げています。本作『The Oldest Thing』は、自身の膨大なイメージアーカイブを並置しながら、コラージュやペインティングを500ページ超のボリュームでまとめたもの。これらのイメージの間には、作者の長年の友人であるバジェ・ボア（Basje Boer）による7篇の詩が収められています。日常で繰り返される作業に敬意を表しながら、その向こうに存在する謎めいた世界に光を当てた作品集。
