His nudes were never titillating and he always appeared to have great respect for his models and feminine beauty throughout his long career
I painted over the pelican and added a young woman
This Aphrodite has such a strong form and she is very female but it doesn’t feel like she's made of flesh
The quaint chapter titles and the gorgeous Rich Tea biscuit colour of the pages really helped forming the ideas for these little paintings
His ink illustrations seemed to be carved out of stone and there was a tremendous strength and gravity to it all
