Made in the midst of World War II, this map draws on the diversity that has always been present to create the nation. From artist, author and mapmaker, Louise E. Jefferson, she was the daughter of a U. S. Treasury engraver that played a significant role in the Harlem Artists Guild. Her books were met with resistance at the time, specifically because her illustrations for "We Sing America" showed black and white children
