This is a vintage Japanese lacquer box in red and black with hand painted pine needle decorations

It is finished in the original dark lacquer made up of over 10 coats of tinted urushi lacquer that has worn through in areas and the heavy patina from the centuries is clearly visible

Made of the finest mulberry wood drawer faces and keyaki casing. Where once there were arms to hold a mirror the top has been filled in (see photos). Makes for a great jewelry case or desk organizer.
