In silver, a large black enamelled cross pattee, with a thick silver border with textured edges, the reverse bearing a single vertical pin assembly, the pin is marked C. F. ROTHE WEIN with two A marks denoting Vienna manufacture, the base of the medal is marked FR and bears a silver dog head denoting silver fineness, the cross measures 59. 8 mm (w) x 66. 45 mm (h), weighs 43. 88 grams, there are clear enamel restorations
