Commander - Finely made in 18K gold with beautiful deep red enamels
obverse illustrating a riflemen kneeling and in a shooting position
he was transferred from the 182nd Infantry Battalion to the Overseas Training Company
when he enlisted in September 1915
He was severely wounded in the chest and also suffered a glancing bullet wound to the head

Eight pointed star in silver with blue, white, and red enamel pieces, centrepiece shows the symbols of Leon and Castile surrounded by ring in blue enamel with the inscription AL MRITO EN CAMPAA, vertical pinback, 61. 7 mm, extremely fine condition. Footnote: The War Cross was instituted in 1938 and awarded in recognition of battlefield bravery. 2. Instituted in 1944. In bronze, obverse shows German Army
