Ernst Otto Goertz was a member of the 2nd Reserve Squadron of the 18th Royal Saxon Ulan Regiment based in Leipzig. He was born on April 30th, 1880 in the city of Mhlhausen to Ernst and Magdalene. Before joining the Army he worked as a Lawyer. He volunteered for service on October 1st, 1914, and was posted
