Even though Moz was relatively new as a solo artist, he had been in the public eye for nearly a decade as the singer of The Smiths, his previous band that broke up in 1987. And his solo material picked up very much where they had left off. Kill Uncle was recorded with a short lived backing band including Mark E. Nevin from Fairground Attraction.
