Instituted 24 June 1914 by Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig. (1914 1918 issue). In silver gilt, a blue enamelled cross pattee, bearing a central dark blue enameled medallion overlaid by a gilt eight rayed star, the reverse with a barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a rounded catch, unmarked, measuring 54. 65mm (w) x 54. 40mm (h), weighs 28. 7 grams, light gilt wear, enamels intact, in extremely fine
