Instituted in 1900 by King Leopold II. In silver gilt, a Maltese cross with ball finials, and wreath segments between the arms, obverse medallion with a rampant lion on a black enamel field, surrounded by a blue ring inscribed LUNION FAIT LA FORCE, the reverse medallion featuring the cypher of King Leopold, the cross is surmounted by a crown and worn on a segment of original neck ribbon in blue
