Baden, Grand Duchy. A Friedrich Ii Merit Medal, Gold Grade Hold marked STERLING" and hallmarked on(Goldene Verdienstmedaille Friedrich II). Instituted 1907 by Grand Duke Friedrich II. (1908 1918 issue). Constructed of gilded magnetic metal, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse with a raised leftward facing profile of Grand Duke Friedrich II, circumscribed by name and title, the reverse with a central inscription of FR VERDIENST (FOR MERIT), within an oak leaf wreath, the obverse maker marked R. M. for Rudolf Mayer,
