Constructed of silvered zink, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon with crossed swords clasp, the obverse with a leftward facing profile of Wilhelm Ernst circumscribed by name and title, the reverse with an inscription of DEM VERDIENST 1914 (FOR MERIT 1914) inside of an oak leaf wreath, unmarked, measuring 36. 08 mm in diameter, weighing 24. 7 grams (inclusive of ribbon), in
