The top consists of dozens of narrow vertical strips, each of which consists of several distinct pieces of fabric. By alternating two sets of strips, a misty landscape starts to emerge one that evokes, to my mind, the purple mountain majesty mentioned in American the Beautiful. Hence, Above the Fruited Plain.
